Round 75: Maverick Hunter Mafia

"Whew, that was a tough one"

Fresh from an assignment, a small squad of Maverick Hunters walk back to their base.  A small outbreak of Irregulars occurred and had to be dispatched.

"Maybe if you hadn't had to babysit us... We're not combat models after all" piped up the base's resident Navigator reploid.
"No, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't keep your combat subroutines well practiced.  You never know what might happen" replied the unit's Wolfoid.
The outpost's Operator then said "As if being dragged away from my baby wasn't bad enough, we had to spend the whole time taking orders form a mutt.  And I'm almost done with my quest chain too..."
"You're doing what on our computers?!" The Commander fummed up
"Nothing".

"We're here! Home Sweet Ho..."

The entire squad stopped in their tracks as they walked through the doors of the outpost base...  The entire building looked like it had been torn apart.  A handful of bodies laid on the floor, some the Hunters who had been stationed as reserve, the rest seemed to be the invaders.

"MY BABY!"
The Operator cried and rushed to the mission-control computers, which had been particularly thoroughly trashed, and began to frantically try and get it running again and make sure it was okay.

Two of the rear guard Hunters then ran into the room, readied for combat, before realizing who was in front of them and saluting instead.
"What happened here?!"
"Mavericks, Commander... They stormed the place, took out the main computer so we couldn't contact you or HQ for backup.  We happened to be on patrol and were contacted on short-range radio when it happened, and it seems are now the only survivors, but we managed to finish off the last of them."
"But it's strange... how they got in... It's like they knew the passcodes"
"What," the newest Hunter recruit inquired, "are you suggesting they had someone on the inside?"
"That... might have been the case"
Everyone turned to look at the Operator, who had managed to squeeze some life out of her life-partner.
"I managed to pull up readings on the number of Maverick signals in the base...  for the most part it seems all of them invaded at the same time, and have been retired... but..."

"... Yes?"
"I'm still getting a reading... and from looking at all the data...  They're in this room!"

Everyone was stunned and began looking among each other, shortly before drawing their weapons and throwing accusations at everyone else but themselves.
"Oh, so THAT'S why you just now joined out squad, eh?  You traitor!"
"No she has to be one, considering she didn't even try to fight the Mavericks during this last mission!"
"I bet that it must be nice to be an Irregular scum in a ride armor!"
"ENOUGH!"

The Commander's voice shut down everyone's arguments, if only for the time being.

"We may have lost long-range-communications, but Maverick Hunter HQ is sure to realize this when we don't report-in and send a team to investigate. Now, in the meantime we will take care of these traitors among us, but shooting each other at the slightest suspicion will only make this situation impossibly worse. No... we will settle this another way...."

The Hunter pointed at his colleague, convinced of his assumption

"W-what are you talking about?"
"You know what I'm talking about, you've been acting suspicious all this time!"
"Accusations are not evidence, Hunter!" the Commander retorted, trying to keep the situation from devolving to what it was before.
"True, but it seems this accusation has gotten on his nerves..."  the Wolfoid approached, "What ARE you hiding?"

"I... I..." studdering with words, the suspect finally shouted "I'LL TAKE YOU HUNTER SCUM DOWN WITH ME!"

But as he tried to brandish his weapon, the Maverick was cut down by the Hunter who cast the first suspicion.

"Ha.. ha!!  See?! I was right!!"
"... So it seems...  But this is not happening again!  Everyone, DISMISSED!"

As everyone left the room for the evening, the Operator turned form her computer.
"Sir... there's something wrong here..."
"Yes?"
"Well, one of the Mavericks was just retired... but the number of Maverick signals in the base remain the same..."
"... maybe the thing is more damaged than we thought.  Regardless, get some rest."
With a slow nod, The operator left to her quarters as well.

Scept wasn't given a chance

Role:

*whistle* "Man, that was sweet.  And here everyone was thinking there was gonna be trouble, but then you two just sniffed one out already!"
"We were lucky this time.  Next time, without better evidence, we might choose more poorly.
"Dude, come on...  what are the chances that even a hundred Mavericks would pose a tiny threat to... what's bothering you?
The Wolfoid stared down the dark hall with great intensity.
"Wait here..." he finally said, before walking into the shadows by himself
"What?  Come on you know you like me... hell, you I know you're trying to protect me, but infact, I proably would be the one here protecting you!"
Full of brovado, the Hunter walked down the hall as well
"I mean, I know you're good and smart at all, but you have no idea how to get the ladies.  Hell, we should hang out after this, and maybe I could teach you some tricks other than fetch, roll over, or...."
His words were cut short by the horror that awaited him at the end of the hall...

Edit: didn't realise that I was on the wrong page. Well it seems to be that Scept took Zink's comment personally and had him killed before getting lynched. :P That said, nothing to go on but we're off to a fairly good start even without a doctor. Eitherway I'm not sure if the Scept vote was the classic Mafia switcheroo, or if he's legitimately innocent and Scept was trying to lynch him. I'll go with the latter, and [vote Link].
