This is probably a dead thread.

Blue is best color. Now that we have that out of the way, we can start actual discussion.

I'm interested in MTG but I've never been good at it and I don't know anyone here who plays either which makes it hard to get better.

If you get on Starcitygames.com then put in your zipcode (or whatever you crazy Canadians use) then you can find local game stores I think

There are stores that sell cards for sure but I don't want to play against strangers to learn because they'll probably make fun of me.

If you just want to learn, why not play on untap with one of us. Though I'm not very good, and it's even more manual than dueling network.

Hey, I play MTG a bit. USually just on Duels of the Planeswalkers, but it's fun (and they get closer to making an actual deck builder every game)

ill shank ur nan m8 orzhov4lyfe

On a serious note, here's an Orzhov deck I made a little while ago. It's a ton of fun on multiplayer since Extort triggers for each player.

1 Erebos, God of the Dead
1 Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts
1 Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
2 Pontiff of Blight
2 Rhox Faithmender
2 Stuffy Doll
2 Exquisite Blood
2 Sanguine Bond
3 Crypt Ghast
4 High Priest of Penance
4 Tithe Drinker
4 Vampire Nighthawk
4 Hold the Gates
4 Debt to the Deathless
4 Godless Shrine
4 Orzhov Guildgate
8 Plains
8 Swamp

I'll probably take out the Stuffy Dolls for Athreos, God of Passage, and I might take out Hold the Gates for Font of Return, but I haven't decided yet. I hate updating my decks each time a new set comes out XD

EDIT: I play on Cockatrice. Setting it up's not super easy, but once you get the hang of it it's just like playing with actual people (and with that, it's all manual which is a bit of a pain).

I went to a local FNM last night and ended 3 - 1. I would have gotten into top 8 (and probably gotten at least 3rd) if my ride didn't have to leave. I used this list and it did really well despite it being my first control untuned control list and me never having played a control deck before.

1 Keranos, God of Storms
1 Aetherling
1 Elixir of Immortality
2 Syncopate
1 Blind Obedience
1 Turn // Burn
3 Banishing Light
4 Detention Sphere
4 Dissolve
4 Sphinx's Revelation
3 Jace, Architect of Thought
4 Supreme Verdict
2 Warleader's Helix
2 Elspeth, Sun's Champion
4 Hallowed Fountain
3 Island
2 Mutavault
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Steam Vents
4 Temple of Enlightenment
4 Temple of Epiphany
2 Temple of Triumph
--
4 Magma Spray
3 Negate
3 Skullcrack
1 Banishing Light
3 Counterflux
1 Assemble the Legion

Something tells me I'm the only person who runs Standard

I play standard, but since I'm in college all my money's going towards textbooks instead of cards.
The current standard deck I'm working on (almost finished!) is

1 Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts
1 Liliana of the Dark Realms
2 Desecration Demon
2 Pontiff of Blight
2 Vizkopa Guildmage
4 Accorder's Shield
4 Archangel of Thune
4 Crypt Ghast
4 High Priest of Penance
4 Tithe Drinker
4 Path of Bravery
4 Debt to the Deathless
4 Godless Shrine
10 Swamp
10 Plains
--
1 Obzedat, Ghost Council
2 Angel of Serenity
2 Azor's Elocutors
2 Indestructibility
4 Merciless Eviction
4 Obzedat's Aid

The goal of the deck is to sit behind my creatures until I have enough mana to deal massive damage with Debt to the Deathless. I can also use vigilant Archangel of Thunes to kill them as well. If they have lifegain as well, then I switch out Desecration Demons for Azors Elocutors, and if they run control I move in Obzedat's Aid. If, for some reason, I'm struggling against a creature spam deck (I'm looking at you, Selesnya), then I use Merciless Eviction to ruin their day.

I just played an Orzhov Aggro on untap.

I accidentally sided out Aetherling and both Elspeth (Read: My only wincons that aren't Mutavault)

I chained Sphinx's Rev for 7, 10, 11 and played an Elixir. I was at 2 before the Revelations.

He left.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who uses Elixirs of Immortality. Being able to shuffle one's graveyard back into the deck is definitely worth 3 mana, and that 5 life is just icing on the cake. I use them in my Mill decks so I can counter other Mill decks XD

That deck being made by Michael Yunker made me laugh, even though it's not very funny.

Depending on what deck you're playing, Elixir isn't all that great. It's good in Sphinx's Rev decks because you're drawing like 30 more cards than your opponent and you'll mill yourself out if you don't have it. Friends and I have been kicking around the idea of taking out the Wild Guess from the Boros Burn list and putting in Elixir so you can reload all your burn spells.

Elixir's also good in reanimator decks. I think I use it in less than 1% of my decks, but I can't stand the people who say things like "waste of an uncommon" whenever it gets reprinted.

The only time I would willfully put an Elixir in the mainboard is if I knew that the meta was going to have a couple mill  decks, or if I was playing a Sphinx's Rev deck.

I wouldn't say Elixir is good in reanimator decks because of what they're trying to do (Obzedat's Aid a giant thing from the yard, usually Elspeth or Sylvan Primordial). If you crack Elixir and draw an Obzedat's Aid, you're kinda sputtering until you draw a Grisly Salvage or Satyr Wayfinder.

The Patriot list has so far only lost out to Boros Burn (Tyler Winn's list from Knoxville), and Mono Black Aggro (Clyde Martin's list from GP Cincinnati).

It's also won be about just under $100 and about 20 packs at this moment.
