Round 27: Lylat Mafia
Just outside Katina Airspace, a Venomian fleet prepares for the impending assault.
The fleet commander isssues an order to his second-in-command.
"Relay a message to Emperor Oikonny that the fleet is in position."
"Yes sir!"
With that, the monkey quickly exits the command deck. He returns a few minutes later.
"The Emperor told us to begin the attack."
The commander then orders a small contingent of Cruisers to attack the Cornerian outpost.
"Do you think the Emperor's plan will work?"
"Depends on how competent those mercenaries he hired are."
Meanwhile, in the Cornerian outpost on Katina...
"Thanks for the help, Fox. I knew we could count on you guys to help train the recruits."
"It's no problem, Bill. We needed the work. Those recrui-"
Suddenly, alarms began blaring throughout the base.
"Venomian Cruisers have been spotted advancing towards the base! All fighters, engage the enemy!"
"What? Venomian?" some pilots say, puzzled. "I thought Andross was dead?"
"He is." Fox replies.
"Then, who's the new leader?"
"We haven't got time to find out."
Fox then looks over to the rest of his team.
"Slippy, Peppy, Falco, we haven't got enough time to get the Arwings. We'll use the fighters from the training mission."
They nod and everyone begins running to the hangars.
In the control room within the base, a Cornerian commander issues the order to call for backup.
"Are you sure sending the recruits out is a good idea? The training fighters still have their outgoing comms disabled."
"We can fix them later, it shouldn't be too hard to repel the cruisers with all our pilots out there."

Sure wynaut, the games that I so desperately try to find and play for those awesome characters and their odd obsession with twirling their aircraft horizontally in a 720 degree rotation for the need to establish evasion or rebounding militia strikes.

Beginning of the First Assault
"What? Why are they attacking now? Dammit, Oikonny, you couldn't be a little more patient?"
"Well, what should we do? We can't exactly wait here and let them find us. Well, you can't." A voice replies over the radio.
"It's simple. Kill the first straggler you find, hide the body and take their ship."
"But we'll die if we do that." A third voice responds.
"Any stragglers we find will be one of those useless recruits. We didn't get many of their fighters."
"Oh."
"Think before you speak next time. Did you at least set the bombs in the comms room?"
"Yes."
"Good. Detonate them when the fighters launch."
The Cornerian fighters begin to launch from their hangars but as they do, most of them explode before they get anywhere near the enemies.
"What's going on? I'm not seeing any shots being fi-"
The Commander stops when a loud explosion rocks the Base.
"Commander, we've lost all long-range communications."
"Did we send the call for backup? What hit us?"
"No, sir. The explosion appears to have come from within the base."
"So there's intruders in the base? Seal all the exits. Scour every inch of this base. We must find them."
"What if their in one of the fighters?"
"We still have short-range comms right?"
"We can only contact the Great Fox and the remaining fighters."
The commander then walks over to his console and opens up comms with the fighters.
"The Base has been infiltrated. Any fighters leaving the Base's Airspace will be assumed to be a traitor and shot down."
The commander then orders ROB to provide covering fire from outside the Base's airspace.
After an hour, the guards within the base confirmed that the intruders are no longer in the base and that some dead bodies had been found.
"Just to be sure, we're keeping the base on lockdown."
"But Commander, how will we find the intruders?"
The Commander approaches the console again.
"All remaining fighters, the intruders are within your ranks. To get rid of them, we're gonna try something rather unusual. It's pretty similar to an old forum game called Mafia. While you're out there, you will place votes on the fighter you suspect is an enemy. Since your outgoing comms were disabled for the training exercise, you place votes by firing at the fighter you suspect. The fighter that was fired at the most will be shot down by the Great Fox when we repel the venomians."
"Commander, you can't be serious! We only have 16 fighters left as it is and what you're suggesting is ludicrous."
"I know we only have 16 fighters left but what other options do we have?"
"....We c-Hmm.....How a-um......Okay, I guess that is our only option."
"Exactly. We'll just have to hope they can weed out the infiltrators."
