Well IIRC the first things you should be fighting WERE skeletons...
or Hollow.
Who cares, they're not human so it's all the same.

SMT IV is fantastic. I don't want to give away too much so just get it; even if you haven't played a Megaten game before it's a fairly good starting point from what I can tell, the only thing you'll be missing out on is familiarity with some of the designs.

Re: Game suggestion thread
Here are some game specials from Play-Asia with free shipping for Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward and Sin Megami Tensei - Devil Summoners (with free shipping).
These are NTSC so I can't buy them.
http://www.play-asia.com/zero-escape-virtues-last-reward-paOS-13-49-en-70-4xi3.html
http://www.play-asia.com/shin-megami-tensei-devil-summoner-soul-hackers-comes-with-free-paOS-13-49-en-70-5uov.html
Zero Escape (which I own but haven't got far) is meant to be excellent and if you base it on the prequel, 9 hours, 9 persons, 9 doors that game is amazing. I highly recommend 9,9,9 which you should play before Zero Escape.

I'm not too big on the fanservice but I hear the actual gameplay is really good.

Re: Game suggestion thread
I won't be able to play for at least a week.
Hopefully by then Alpar will have the game and take it easy from Dark Souls. And maybe others too...maybe.
Although it will be competing with Xillia for me to play.

Re: Game suggestion thread
Well I finally got around to beating Dark Souls.
This game... was a lot of things.
First off, I wouldn't say it's as hard as everyone made it out to be. And by everyone I mean the people that got the game a few years ago and claimed "OMG DIS IS WON OF THE HARDEST GAYMS EVAR."
I'd like to state the fact I think there are two kinds of difficult in videogaming:
The frustrating sort of difficult: Where there's a ton of stuff going on which makes it hard to keep up, makes you incredibly tense as opposed to just on your guard, and if you screw up you will be punished pretty hard, maybe with some trace of artificial difficulty to fuel this. Examples for this I can think of are God Hand, Lunatic Touhou, and Ninja Gaiden.
The fair kind of difficult: Where the game will push as much in your favor as it can to make it as balanced as possible for both the opposing and the protagonist side. If you screw up, it will punish you, but not brutally. It will also keep you as informed as can be and if you stack up on mistakes, you know that all of it will have been your fault and you "willingly" in this sense lose whatever comes with the death you brought upon yourself. Little to no fuel for artificial difficulty and you feel on your guard as opposed to super tense. The reason why this would be considered difficult at all, is because the most important requirement for this to be pressing in any sense, is that you have to die more than you're supposed to, based on the credit of how much the game has made its situations fair for you. The best example I can think of this is probably Devil May Cry.
Dark Souls is the latter. So yes, it's to say it is a hard game of sorts. This is something I wanted to get across but kind of had a hard time wording, so I hope this makes sense.
The game itself is nothing short of fantastic, and I'm really happy that I picked it up. It's not perfect; it has some few flaws such as some mechanics that need working out, a few conveyance problems, and traces of what Extra Credits would call Power Creep
among a few other things. Glaring issues as they may be, they're only glaring because they're small flaws that can be overlooked in a game with highly excellent design. The game does all it can to keep you informed about the situations, sparing enough so that you aren't practically using a guide, and informing enough so that you can make logically constructed decisions at nearly every turn.
One of my favorite things about this game definitely has to be the era in which it was released. It was not only released in a time perfect enough to make this game as pleasing, innovating, and immersing as possible with technology, but it was also the perfect time to deliver a kick to the face against the masses that have no idea how the differences between "you play the game" and "the game plays itself" work.
There's a whole ton of secrets too, and I'm sure we don't need to dive into those.
To top it all off, the endurance system is simple, but it goes an unbelievably long way. It's a really easy-to-understand concept but thanks to it, you immediately get how the game will go, and you feel that everything you do based off of this system will always matter in the long run, even accounting the smallest situations. This really drives the whole thing home, and it's probably the reason why this entire game kicked its way right into my top 9.
The only real problems I had with this game that I could call the biggest issue (on a personal level) was probably the lack of music. I mean yeah, whenever music plays during the bossfights, it's awesome, it's defining to the atmosphere and theme, it does a great job
but I get the impression they could probably have squeezed more out of their budget to structure atmosphere more with some music. The visuals are great to an extent, which helps, but yeah.
Anyway, after finally having beaten it after all this time, I recommend it to anyone and everyone that has a 360, PS3, or a PC that can run it. It's deserving of its must-play title, not so much for how hard it is, but the incredible elements of game design that are weaved carefully into nearly every inch of the game.
I don't care about your backlog, play this game you pleb.
Also I demand a personal apology from Phoenix.
This game does NOT deserve to be compared to Skyrim you filthy casual.
